SouthPark project to add to the mix with Whole Foods

A partnership that owns the 353-unit Colony Apartments in SouthPark is considering redeveloping the property for a mix of uses.
The ownership, which includes Charlotte-based First Landmark USA Inc., has signed Whole Foods Market but has no other tenants or design plans in hand, says First Landmark President Tim Hose.
He expects to meet as soon as this week with a New York firm to start work on a master plan for the 24-acre site in the northwest corner of Colony and Sharon roads.
Meetings with municipal planners, residents and neighbors will follow.
"We believe the site is consistent with mixed-use, and we envision something that would incorporate primarily residential uses with some retail," he says.
The makeover of the Colony tract would fit with SouthPark's flood of development, primarily in mixed-use projects. That includes neighboring Morrison, a 24-acre, $250 million development by Grubb Properties at the northeast corner of Sharon and Colony roads. When complete, it will contain more than 500 residential units, almost 128,000 square feet of shops and restaurants, a pool and common areas. Natural-food chain Earth Fare has announced plans to open a store in Morrison in early 2007.
"It's our goal to do something that will be acceptable to the neighborhood," Hose says. "We want to see how it's going to unfold as we move forward."
