The Whole Foods Market project in downtown west Austin is home to the largest Whole Foods Market in the world and the parent company’s corporate headquarters. The store will be 80,000 square feet and the entire project will employ over 1,000 Austinites. The Whole Foods Market block will also feature local art, culture and community elements designed to create a retail and entertainment destination for Austin and beyond. Below, please find the latest photographs of the project:
Main Store Entrance - The grocery store entrance features an eighteen foot tall glass and aluminum storefront with protective metal canopies. The surrounding native stone walls and columns accent the exterior merchandizing. The curved storefront enhances the organic nature of not only the architecture, but also, the retailing experience inside.
Corner of Sixth + Lamar - The most visible corner of the project is at Sixth and Lamar, the "crossroads" of the Market District. The open air plaza extends the store into the outdoor seating area with a unique water feature. The shade structures were co-designed by SWA Landscape Architects, Mark Cavagnero and Associates and Austin wood artist Chris Levack. This area will soon feature sculptures by Austin artists Beverly Penn and Margo Sawyer.

Corner of Sixth + Bowie - From the East, the project is a two story retail building with the office tower - housing the Whole Foods Market headquarters – set back from the retail. The corner is enlivened by a raised landscaped plaza and a prominent entry portal to the office building. The parking garage entrances are highlighted by limestone walls with highly visible signage.

Rooftop plaza - This area is truly a unique retreat. The area has a SWA-designed xeriscaped garden with Texas native plants. The shade structures were co-designed by SWA Landscape Architects, Mark Cavagnero and Associates and Austin wood artist Chris Levack. There is also seating, a playscape and a flexible area that has been used for everything ranging from a book signing to a holiday ice rink.
